Dana Schechter
– Music Biography
Singer, bassist, composer, and producer, Dana Schechter has been playing music
since age 9. Born in San Francisco, California, she moved to New York City
in 1997, forming her band BEE AND FLOWER while continuing to record and tour
as a bassist for other groups internationally.
Bee and Flower releases include 2 Studio Albums, one DVD Music Video, two
Feature Film Scores, one 7", tracks on 3 Compilations, and cameos in
several Independent Films and Radio Features.
In 2004, Dana moved the core band of Bee and Flower to Berlin to record their
2nd album, “Last Sight of Land” (tuition music, Germany), featuring
special guests from NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS, IGGY POP, SWANS, LES HOMMES
SAUVAGES, and more. This album follows up their 2003 critically acclaimed
debut, “What’s Mine Is Yours” (Neurot Recordings).
In 2008 Dana moved back to NYC, and now splits her time between Europe / USA.
As a bassist, Dana has toured/recorded with international artists KEREN ANN
(Blue Note/Metro Blue/Capitol-France), BERTRAND BURGALAT (Tricatel/Virgin-EMI
France), STEPHAN EICHER (EMI France/CH), TARNATION (4ad/Reprise/Birdman),
TOBY DAMMIT (Hit-Thing Recordings), ANGELS OF LIGHT (M. Gira/Young God Records),
TARNATION (4AD/Reprise/Birdman), BOTANICA (Rent-a-Dog Records) and APRIL MARCH
(PIAS America/Tricatel).
Film Scoring work includes award winning "Dead Dogs Lie" and "A
Good Night to Die", starring Michael Rapaport and Deborah Harry; and
on composer Toby Dammit’s score for Award-Winning short “AppleJack”
(Tranquility Pictures).
